Goal setting is good, but don't get caught up too much in it because you might forget about what's important now. Focus on the moment, Think about the things that need to work on right now. Focus on the process and the results will take care of themselves.
I think people get caught up too much in goals. I mean, don't get me wrong. I think goal setting is really good. I think it's important to be reminded of your goals. But i think when we focus on them too much, you forget about what's important now, right?
So think about it like this...
Has there ever been a time when you set a goal, and for like maybe a year goal, a 12-month goal, maybe a five year goal, to a life goal, and then you know, three months, four months down the road you're like, "oh my gosh, I completely forgot I'm off my game, I'm not even focused on that", or worse yet, you set a goal for yourself for 12 months and in six months you don't even want that goal anymore.
So what the heck is that all about? Look, I think if I could drag anything home to you and provide as much value as I can on this video for you, it would be the idea that if you look at people who perform at high -- at really super high levels, you look at professional athletes or the people in business that perform at the highest level or anybody in their industry, if you look at the top, you know, let's call it five percent in the industry, what you'll notice is all the top performers have the ability to get focused on the moment. To get into the 'zone' of whatever that might be.
Now what I know to be true, is that if you focus on the process, the result will take care of itself. So what if you did this.. what if you set a goal for yourself for 12 months, and then you backed it up. Well if that's my goal in 12 months what do I need to do, over you know on a monthly basis to be able to hit that goal? And then what do I need to do on a weekly basis to hit that goal. And in that weekly basis if you can stay in the zone, I challenge you stay in the zone for one week which is extremely tough and if you do that over and over and over, you're going to win the game so really it's the skill of focusing on the process and letting the outcome take care of itself.
You know, there's a famous Chinese proverb that says when you have one eye on the outcome, you only have one eye on the journey. And you and I both know that if you want to achieve your goals you got to have both eyes focused on what you are doing. If you look at any professional athlete they have the ability with thousands of screaming fans to get into the zone and not hear anything, but see the game in slow motion.
How good are you at getting focused on the moment? Like what do you need to work on right now? What do you need to become obsessed with? What can you do right now to master the process? 'Cause my promise to you is, if you'll master the process, the results will take care of themselves.
